Email Engine & your website

Do i need a website to use Email Engine?

No, a website is not necessary to use Email Engine. You only need an email address. A website is very useful to drive visitors to, but if you only wish to distribute information, it is not necessary.

I have a website, but it is designed by my own web designers. Can I still use Email Engine?

Yes, absolutely. Your Email Engine account is totally independent of your website.

Can I add a form onto my website to automatically build my subscriber mailing list?

Yes, we will provide code for you to build subscribers automatically.

Email lists

Do you sell lists?

No, Email Engine is strictly an opt-in permission tool, to be used only with your own customers and subscribers.

Your subscriber list

Can I buy a CD of email addresses from the internet and use these in my Email Engine account?

No, this is Spam, and is prohibited. Your subscriber list must be Opt-in only. Even if the list is sold as an "opt-in" list, we will not permit this. In addition, the response rate for professional companies from this type of campaign is very low - and reduces the reputation of your company.

What is "Opt-in"?

Opt-in refers to your subscribers opting to receive your email. If you send commercial email to somebody who has not requested it, this is spam and is not permitted in Email Engine. You can however add your existing customers to your subscriber list, unless they have explicitly stated that they do not want to be included in any mailshot or they remove themselves from the database.

I have a database of email contacts that I would like to use within Email Engine. Can I upload this?

To prevent spam, email engine tightly controls the addition of email addresses. We would be happy to arrange the manual uploading of a database upon request.

If somebody wishes to be removed from my mailing list, what do I need to do?

Each email automatically includes an unsubscribe link. The recipient clicks on this link, and is taken to a page which allows them to change their details, or delete themselves from your list. You need do nothing. If however, somebody request that you remove them manually, you must do so through the control panel.

Creating Mailshots

Do I need any special skills to use Email Engine?

No, to write plain text mailshots, you only need to know how to type! If you wish to send graphic emails, you need to be able to produce HTML code, or have a designer who can do this for you.

Can I personalize my emails?

Yes, one of Email Engine's key features is the ability to include the recipient's first name, surname or company name within the email body or subject line.

I have written a HTML mailshot, where do i place the graphics?

All images must be stored on your own web server (or the Email Engine Server, if you have agreed this with us.) Therefore your IMG tags should ready:

rather than
